Day trip by bus - "Castles tour"

You make a trip by bus upstream along the Rhine at first to Bacharach. In the centre of Bacharach the delightful half-timbered houses are impressive.

After one hour's sojourn you will continue your trip downstream and will cross the Rhine in Kaub with the ferry (a curiosity: at the edge between Mainz and Koblenz as there is no bridge across the Rhine). 'A ship of stone eternally floating on the Rhine' - this is the old moated castle of Pfalzgrafenstein, an old customs post situated on a rocky reef in the middle of the river.

Further downstream you will pass by the castle of Schönburg and will sojourn for a while on Loreley. From there you will have a unique view to your vacation resort 'Urbar'.

Then you continue your trip - passing the castles of 'Katz und Maus' (= cat and mouse), the castle of Rheinfels, of Marksburg, Stolzenfels until you will finally arrive after about 30 minutes at the fortification Ehrenbreitstein in Koblenz.

We take care of the entrance fee - you have ½ hour's time available to explore the fortification and to let the eye rove across the mountain ranges of Hunsrück, Westerwald, Eifel and Taunus. Also the Deutsche Eck, where Rhine and Mosel rivers meet, can here be viewed the closest. We will then take you there and pick you up again after 3 hours. You can leisurely explore Koblenz with the attractive old city and its shopping streets. On the return trip we shall still have a halt at the 'Rittersturz' (= Knight's tumble), a historical place. Here the foundation-stone was laid after the war for our constitution.

Some famous and some less famous castles and buildings can still be sight-seen, but it is no doubt that you could not see more castles on any other route at the Middle-Rhine than on our 'Castles tour'.

The bus trips take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Please plan your arrival so not to miss any such trip!
